EF is named Official Supplier of Language Programs for the XXII Winter Olympics in Sochi 2014

(Moscow, Russia) April 28, 2011

EF Education First has been appointed as Official Supplier to the XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014, in the category of “Language Training Services”. Almost 1,000 days before the opening of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, special English training will begin for almost 70,000 participants, including volunteers and employees of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee.

“We are proud to be an Official Sochi 2014 Supplier”, said Philip Hult, EF CEO. “EF and the Olympic Games have a shared mission of promoting international friendship and cultural exchange.”

“There is an enormous desire in Russia to learn English—the global lingua franca—and we are grateful to be given the chance to help prepare Russia for this huge sporting event,” stated Hult.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, President and CEO of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, said: “EF’s language training has demonstrated itself to be of the highest standards, through the company’s deep experience with the Olympic Games and other international sporting events.”

EF meets the required delivery criteria as Supplier and has a proven track record in developing relevant language programs to meet the needs of the Olympic Games. EF served as the Official Supplier to the Seoul Olympic Summer Games in 1988 and the recent Olympic Summer Games in Beijing in 2008.

The first student to learn English with EF for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2014 will be the Sochi 2014 Ambassador and Russian Paralympic swimmer, Olesya Vladykina, who won the gold medal in the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing.
